March is Women's History Month
Nelle Elizabeth Peters (December 11, 1884 – October 7, 1974) was a pioneering architect in Kansas City, Missouri, recognized for her prolific contributions during the early to mid-20th century. Over her six-decade-long career, she designed nearly 1,000 buildings, significantly shaping the city's architectural landscape. Peters specialized in designing apartment buildings and hotels, with many of her works located near the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. One notable project is the "literary block," a series of apartment buildings named after famous authors such as Mark Twain, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Washington Irving. In recognition of her impact, two districts in the city have been named in her honor: the Nelle E. Peters Historic District and the Nelle E. Peters Thematic Historic District. In 2021, she was posthumously inducted into the Starr Women's Hall of Fame, celebrating her as a trailblazer for women in architecture.
Another amazing woman is my daughter Courtney Powell. She is a Project Lead for the Caring Transitions team. She shares, “My favorite part of what we do at Caring Transitions is meeting new people and creating bonds with our clients, as we relieve some of the stress while they navigate their moves. When I’m not working, my three daughters keep me very busy. My husband and I enjoy watching all their sporting events and we enjoy traveling as a family when we are able.”
